Colonnade Corn Bread Muffins

HOT NOW is the best way to eat doughnuts (Krispy Kremeand Southern cornbread.  The Colonnade restaurant in Atlanta is legendary for making the most tender and moist corn muffins around.  Buttermilk and white corn meal marry and produce great texture and taste.  Hot from the oven and slathered with butter, these corn bread muffins are a little  piece of heaven on a plate.

Anyone have the recipe for their mouth-watering yeast rolls??

Pleasant Peasant Shrimp and Grits

Remember the wonderful Peasant Restaurants that were so popular in Atlanta? Each one had a signature bread and decadent dessert that they were known for. One of the restaurants served fried rolls that melted in your mouth like a HOT NOW Krispy Kreme doughnut.  Divine.  No butter needed.

If you have any of their recipes, feel free to pass them on because they were all wonderful, especially the desserts.

Get The Winning Cupcake Recipe

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake won three out of five awards at the 1st Annual Chocolate Pink Cupcake contest.  Atlanta Food Bloggers judged it Best Presentation, Best Flavor and Best Overall Cupcake.  A peanut butter cupcake is topped with rich chocolate ganache frosting, topped again with a creamy soft peanut butter buttercream frosting, and garnished with a peanut and a piece of chocolate. Every bite is a taste sensation and reminds you of a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, only better.  OMG.

Chocolate Pink Cupcake Contest

Can you spot the winner?  Recently the Atlanta Food Bloggers were invited to judge a cupcake contest at Chocolate Pink, an Atlanta boutique dessert cafe.  Maybe you’ve seen this super cute place on the Real Housewives of Atlanta when one of the ladies booked the party room upstairs for her daughter’s birthday.  We didn’t have nearly the drama, but we had a great time sampling their spectacular cupcakes and deciding which ones we liked best.

Eight cupcakes were judged in five different categories and one cupcake won three out of the five awards!   Chocolate Peanut Butter was the big winner mostly because it tasted like a Reese’s Peanut Butter cup but in cupcake speak, it was a moist peanut butter cupcake topped with two frostings, chocolate ganache and peanut butter butter cream garnished with a slice of chocolate and a peanut.  Run, don’t walk to Chocolate Pink to try this cupcake!

Check back for my next blog post and I’ll feature the recipe for the winning cupcake, Chocolate Peanut Butter.

Roasted Salsa Tacqueria Del Sol

Roasting tomatoes and jalapenos give salsa a depth of flavor and a smokey taste that you wouldn’t get otherwise.  This is the last of three salsas from my cooking class at Cooks Warehouse. If you’ve been to Taqueria Del Sol, you know they serve these together as a salsa trio with a basket of warm salted tortilla chips.  Try these at home and make a trip to Taqueria to find out how close you got to the real thing.  You might even like yours better!

Once the tomatoes and jalapenos are roasted, the salsa goes together quickly in a food processor.  It tastes great served a little warm or at room temperature.   Hey, pass the chips!

Salsa Verde Taqueria Del Sol

Salsa Verde from Taqueria Del Sol gets its green color from tomatillos, the main ingredient.  They give it a bright flavor along with fresh cilantro and fresh jalapenos.  Taqueria uses whole jalapenos, seeds and all,  in their salsas, so if you’re a wimp you might want to add a little less than they do.

The next salsa is roasted and its full of flavor.  Check back later in the week to get that one too!

California Pizza Kitchen Field Greens Salad

California Pizza Kitchen serves a mixed green salad and tops it with a delicious Dijon Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing that’s so easy to make. All you need are a few ingredients and a whisk.  Don’t be tempted to throw these ingredients into a food processor because it emulsifies the dressing too much and it becomes too thick.  When you’re ready to serve this salad, don’t toss it, drizzle the dressing on the top so you can enjoy the flavor even more.
