4th of July Fruit

Watermelon, Blueberries, Blackberries and Raspberries are my favorite summer fruits and they’re perfect for a picnic or a cook out on the 4th of July.  If you stick to just eating fruit, you’re sure to not gain any weight but it’s hard to have self-control at a cook out!  Tomorrow, I’ll be grilling again with Corn on the Cob and after that I’ll give you a recipe for  a delicious summer time dessert, Blueberry Cobbler with Haagen Dazs Vanilla Ice Cream.

Fruit For the 4th of July

Watermelon, cut into 1-inch cubes
Blueberries
Blackberries
Raspberries
Strawberries

Cut up watermelon into 1-inch cubes.  Top with blueberries, blackberries and raspberries.  Strawberries would be great with this too.  Put in a great looking bowl and serve it up for the 4th of July.

TIP: Macerating Fruit

Macerating is the same as marinating except with fruit.  You can use simple syrup or citrus juice, or wine, etc. and let the fruit sit in the liquid for several hours.  I like to macerate BERRIES because sometimes they are a little under ripe.  Let them sit in a simple syrup with a little added lemon juice and they’ll have a great flavor.  Then, use them for a dessert or by themselves or top watermelon cubes with the macerated fruit for a delicious fruit salad.
